All About Me
I have been in education since 2001. The first ten years I was a teacher assistant, and after receiving my teaching certificate, began teaching in 2010. I am originally from Illinois, but moved to North Carolina in 1987 and have considered myself a converted southerner ever since. I have two grown children who are out of school and out of the house.
My Philosophy of Education
Ever since I was a child, I can remember “playing teacher” with my two little sisters and anyone else in the neighborhood that would put up with doing more schoolwork. I would spend hours creating worksheets and reprimanding my unruly students. I also remember the look of adoration and respect those children, sometimes only one year younger than myself, would give me when I praised their hard work and accomplishments.
I learned at an early age that knowledge is power and those who have the knowledge have a great deal of influence on the people around them. I also learned that being able to transfer that knowledge was not always easy. Different people learn at different speeds and in different ways. They will only learn if things are explained to them in a way that they understand. This is the greatest challenge of education: to find the best way to reach and to teach your students.
I believe that every student can succeed in their education if given enough support, stimulation and encouragement. I also feel that I am very good at finding the right way to reach each child’s best method of learning. It is my fervent hope and desire to be able to work in a learning environment that will help each student reach his or her highest potential.
